What is Zero Balancing (ZB)?
Zero Balancing is a hands-on therapy. Some have described it as being “like massage with no need to undress; like therapy with no need to talk; and like meditation with no need for the discipline of daily practice”.
Why should I get a Zero Balancing session?
Zero Balancing (ZB), while non-diagnostic, can enhance overall feelings of wellness, and specific issues can often improve as a result. It also feels great. Long-term benefits can include: a sense of improved health and wellbeing; the release of stress and a feeling of enhanced energy; reduction of body pain and discomfort; better balance, stability and mobility; heightened feelings of connection, peace and happiness; improvements in sleep patterns; and a release of present and past mental, physical and emotional tension.
You will find that Zero Balancing touch feels very safe to receive, because the sessions are done fully clothed, apart from shoes; you are encouraged to state clearly if there is anything you don’t like or want (I will always listen and respect your wishes); and the nature of the touch is clear, non-invasive and comfortable. ZB touch never tries to force any change. It feels supportive and meets you precisely where you are. I do not introduce outside energy into your body. Rather, I pay attention to where you are holding tension (or “held energy”), and invite that tension to release naturally.
For these reasons, ZB is ideally suited to people for whom touch can be an issue – either because of pain and body trauma, or as a result of inappropriate touch experienced in their past.
What can I expect during a ZB session?
We begin the ZB session with a discussion of the current state of your health and life, and how I can help and support you. You will first sit, as I focus on your back and shoulders, and then I will ask you to lie on your back, fully clothed, on the treatment couch. I will assess your body for tension, particularly tension held in the bones and joints. Using gentle finger pressure and stretches, at a level that feels purposeful and focused (neither “too much” nor “too little”), my work will invite a welcome release of tension, which generally feels pleasurable and deeply relaxing. Each session is unique and typically lasts 20–40 minutes depending on your specific needs. After your session, you will have a few moments to rest, and then I will ask you to stand up and walk around to integrate the work and help you return to full alertness after being deeply relaxed.
How many sessions will I need?
If you are new to Zero Balancing, I recommend that you book 3 sessions over a period of 3–8 weeks. Having regular sessions within this sort of time frame helps to allow newly experienced inner ease and structural flexibility to settle firmly in your body. After that, you may choose to enjoy Zero Balancing as a supportive part of your life, having a regular session every 4–5 weeks to maintain your sense of wellbeing, or perhaps have an occasional ZB session to “top up” as needed, particularly during challenging times.
What should I wear to my ZB session?
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to move and stretch easily.
